Non Operational Director

Gary Lovatt

Gary became Non-Operational Director of FSB in April 2017. A member of FSB for over 18 years, Gary has served as a volunteer in many different roles for FSB, most recently as Chair for National Council.

Gary’s experience as a volunteer includes in branch, regional and National positions; he’s been Branch Vice Chair for Central Lancashire and now West Cumbria, is Regional Chair for Lancashire and Cumbria, has served on the National Policy committee as Area Policy Rep, and as Chairman of FSB Recruitment Ltd.  This background gives him a clear insight into the inner workings of FSB, and, crucially, an understanding of where improvements can be made.

He’s been the owner and director of his own small businesses since 1994 – primarily in the financial sector as a Financial Adviser, and now in the hospitality sector. In his capacity as a small business owner and as an FSB volunteer, he sits on a number of boards, including the Local Enterprise Partnerships for Lancashire and for Cumbria, the Keswick Tourism Association and the European Structural Investment Fund for Lancashire. All of which gives him a clear insight into the needs and challenges facing SMEs and is experience he draws on for his work with FSB.

Gary has regular engagement with local MPs and MEPs and has made numerous appearances on regional television and radio, speaking on behalf of small businesses on key business issues.

As Non-Operational Director, Gary is keen to ensure that FSB retains its fundamental grassroots voice, through nurturing and supporting our branch members and their local activity. He’s also forthright in his desire to see all parts of FSB – be it members, volunteers or staff - work together seamlessly to deliver the support and representation our members deserve and require.

Gary is married to Sue and they live in Cumbria with their two Labradors – his 12 grandchildren keep his spare time full and varied!
