To become a member of FSB you need to be an owner, partner, or director of a business (or businesses), as long as the total number of employees for all businesses combined does not exceed 249.

No other small business organisation provides the breadth of services, support and advice that FSB does.

When compared to competitor offerings, FSB is the only membership organisation to offer its members comprehensive tax protection, business legal protection insurance as well as employment law guidance, health and safety advice. In addition to healthcare advice and a no obligation, free financial health check – all as rights of membership (included in your membership fee!).

In addition to this, members are able to attend over 200 free networking groups, as well as take advantage of specially negotiated products and services that will help you grow your business.

These offerings include legal and tax protection insurance scheme, 24/7/365 legal advice, health and safety and HR online support, as well as vehicle services and Energy provider. In addition to pension planning, including a workplace pension auto enrolment solution, business banking and other products and services specifically designed to help members grow their business and save money.

There are three ways you can join FSB.

  • Join online via our online join portal.
  • Requesting a call back by one of our Sales Advisors who will contact you to answer any questions and to complete application form, if you decide to join. Request a call back.
  • Face to face by meeting one of our Membership Advisors who will come out to visit you at a time and place of your choice. You can book an appointment.

You can pay for your membership in four ways:

  • Set up a direct debit
  • Debit or credit card
  • BACS
  • Cheque

Once an owner, partner, or director of a business has become an FSB member, we offer a discounted £62.50 associate membership, with a £30 registration fee, specifically designed for additional directors or partners involved in the same business as the full member.

Although FSB cannot directly promote your business, there are several opportunities that FSB membership presents to network with fellow members, to exchange best practice and ideas.

You may be interested to attend one of the 200 regional events held year with fellow members and non-members. You can view the regional pages here.

As well as your regional events, you can take advantage FSB Business Leads that gives you access to a range of services to help you find new customers, build profile and deliver high quality integrated marketing campaigns.

Yes, members can get support from their Development Manager who they can contact with any lobbying issues or regional questions. In addition to attending the networking events organised by their regions. You can view our regions here.

No, there are no accreditation checks become a member, as we are not a trade organisation and we do not recommend, or endorse our members’ businesses.

This depends on which package you are wanting to join. Please take a look at our detailed fees page for more information on the annual subscription.

Yes, the joining process will still be the same as if you were a brand new member. Here is how you can join FSB:

  • Join online via our online join portal.

As soon as you have the business in place you can join FSB and begin to receive the benefits and protection membership offers.

Once you have joined FSB, you will receive your membership number straight away which will give you access to use to legal advice line and optional member benefits (subject to normal application and credit check for some benefits).

You will also then receive a welcome email within 48 hours from the application form being processed, which will outline how to set up your password. This will then give you access to the legal documents and fact sheets online via our website. 

Yes. Membership of FSB is tax deductible.

It is not too late to join FSB, however you would need to contact a new membership advisor to discuss this first, as there may be variables in the help available depending on the situation.

We would not cover anything that pre-exists your membership, but you may still be able to obtain legal advice over the phone. It is always best to give us a call and we can discuss this with you.

If you have changed your mind within 28 days of joining, we offer a cooling off period in which you can cancel your membership. 

If you wish to cancel your membership at any other point during the membership, you would need to call us in the first instance to discuss the cancellation. Our team can then direct you further on this process. We do not require any set cancellation notice period, but we do not offer pro rata refunds on cancellations.

As FSB is a Lobbying Organisation, not a trade organisation, we don’t endorse the products or services of our members, therefore we’re unable to act against any complaints and it may be worth contacting your local Trading Standards representative.

No, as FSB is a Lobbying organisation not a trade organisation, we don’t give members’ details out. 

You may be interested in FSB Business Leads, our appointed Service Provider they can provide you with data.

Yes, if you give them a call, they will be able to discuss services with you. However, they may not be able to confirm exact rates, or confirm eligibility for services without completing the application process. 

We can also discuss any of the Service Providers with you to give you more information on the benefits available.

The membership number will be active as soon as you have joined and paid. You can use this when speaking to our Service Providers and Legal advice line. However, to use the legal documents online, you will need to use the password that you generated when you joined. 

No, we are not a trade organisation so we do not look into your services or perform an accreditation check, therefore we do not recommend or endorse our members’ services. 

No, the payment is an annual subscription and you pay a joining fee in your first year of membership.

Yes. It is important that you keep us up to date with your employee numbers to ensure you are eligible for the correct level of cover for your business.
