Round table session with FSB Scotland Policy and Press team to examine the proposals by the Scottish Government to introduce a Visitor Levy.

Event details

The Scottish Government has proposed a new law which would allow local authorities to introduce an additional charge when someone pays for overnight accommodation- a charge that would be collected by accommodation providers before being passed onto their local authority.

The Scottish Parliament’s Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee are currently seeking views on the proposals (deadline 15 September 2023) and ahead of the deadline, FSB will be hosting a virtual roundtable to allow members to feed into our response.

Hosted by FSB Scotland Deputy Head of Policy, Rachel Cook and Deputy Head of External Affairs, Ruth McElroy, this session will explore views on what this means for accommodation providers and examine ways that could improve the proposed law. We’ll also be looking at views on how revenue raised from the levy should be reinvested to benefit the local economy.

Detailed responses to the consultation can be made direct to the Committee here or if you cannot attend meeting and wish to contribute, check out FSB Scotland’s guide here.
