FSB Member Stories: Tom Marren, Coventry Scale Company

FSB Member Story 4 Jul 2022

We visited Tom Marren from Coventry Scale Company, a family-owned business that supplies, maintains and calibrates industrial weighing equipment and systems. Tom explains how being an FSB member gives him peace of mind and helps him to get on with business.

Coventry Scale Company was set up in 1975 as a partnership, before being incorporated as a limited company in 2015 by Tom Marren and Neil Keegan. Tom and Neil, who started working at Coventry Scale Company as apprentices themselves more than 25 years ago, have many years of weighing and legal metrology experience.

The duo has grown the business in recent years by changing their business model, moving from supplying cash registers and scales to local shops, to providing industrial and commercial weighing solutions to businesses from SME’s through to large FTSE 100 companies. Tom and Neil are supported by a team of experienced engineers who help to deliver bespoke and innovative weighing systems for their customers.

With the reassurance of FSB support, Tom explains how he’s able to get back to business.  “Being part of the region’s local business community network is important to us, which is why we joined the FSB. In addition, before we joined we’d often get sight of the guidance and advice that the FSB was sharing around grant funding for example, so we thought it would be useful to have direct access to this kind of guidance.”
