Making change for small businesses

FSB is member led and it’s what makes us the leading and authentic voice of the 5.8 million small businesses and self-employed in the UK. Contributing to this voice can be as quick and easy as a 'share' on social media, or as involved as becoming a volunteer and helping to drive FSB's next steps.

Whatever you choose, it matters.

FSB Volunteer Conference 2020

More than 200 FSB volunteers from across the UK came together in London on 4 and 5 February 2020 for a conference to celebrate their contribution as well as to network and share best practice.

As a grassroots campaigning organisation, FSB’s member volunteers are at the organisation’s heart - ensuring the voice of small businesses is heard by governments at all levels and by other decision makers.

Get Involved

Being an FSB Volunteer takes many forms, find out how it can help you grow your skills and network and hear from some of our volunteers across the UK

Be part of something bigger

Share your experiences with other members and find out how others have overcome them. Making the voices of small businesses heard nationally and making a difference locally.

Nurture skills

Learn new skills through partners such as Facebook and Google to help build your business, or share your knowledge with others.

Grow your network

Our members run small businesses across all sectors but all have faced the same issues. Share your experiences with other members and find out how others have overcome them.

Create local change

Local issues such as parking, or more national ones such as skills shortages and late payments can be devastating to small businesses. Our teams work across the UK providing local knowledge and support.

Volunteering

Without the contribution volunteers make, FSB would not be the organisation it is – giving a voice to small businesses and the self-employed right across the UK.

Barbara Griffiths

National Councillor

I have been running my own business for the past 22 years and joined FSB very soon after taking over the business. Ten years ago I decided to widen my horizons and become active within FSB by volunteering in Conwy branch.  I have served as branch secretary and on the regional committee. Through this I have gained experience in attending and organising meetings,  the ability to quickly understand issues raised, and consider them from a wider general business point of view rather than just my own immediate sector.

Regional Chair

My volunteer activity with FSB has been varied and exciting; meeting politicians across local and national governments, hosting events, and even finding myself on stage in front of hundreds of people. It’s sometimes challenging, always dynamic and very rewarding. Not only has my FSB volunteer activity enabled me to fulfil my ambition as a community builder, but it’s given me opportunities I would never have otherwise had. It’s developed me personally and been good for my business too.

Highlands & Islands Volunteer Area Leader

I passionately believe in speaking out in order to bring about change and that this can best be achieved as an FSB volunteer. As Area Lead, I've been invited to comment in local and national media, on everything from the implications of Brexit on staffing for remote rural businesses, to business rates, to the proposed tourist bed tax, to public toilet closures and the North Coast 500.
