Lobbying from FSB helped secure rates relief for businesses caught up in the Glasgow School of Art fire. Businesses that can prove they were affected by the fire can apply for up to 100 per cent relief on business rates, with 95 per cent funded by the Scottish Government and 5 per cent by Glasgow City Council.

Hisashi Kuboyama, FSB’s Development Manager for the West of Scotland, said: “This is a smart move from the council and should give some city centre independent businesses extra help at a time when they need it most.

"What will be important is that help is available for firms beyond the so-called exclusion zones.”
