Speakers

David Bell - BSI Director of Standards Policy

David Bell is Director of Standards Policy at the British Standards Institution (BSI), the UK’s National Standards Body. He heads a team which is responsible for BSI's input to the international and European standards bodies, ISO, IEC, CEN and CENELEC on technical and policy issues.  In addition, David manages BSI's institutional relations with national and regional standards organizations, as well as relations with British industry, UK government and with key stakeholders, including consumer and public interest groups. An economist by training, David was a member of the Council of ISO for five years, and a member of the ISO Finance Committee. David has recently joined the IEC Business Advisory Committee, is a former member of the CEN and CENELEC Boards, and chairs CEN/CENELEC’s Task Force on Africa. 

Matilda Rhode - BSI Digital Sector Lead Artificial Intelligence & Cyber Security

Dr Matilda Rhode is the sector lead for AI and cyber security at BSI and is responsible for developing the strategy around AI and cyber security standards for the UK’s national standards body. She previously worked in cyber security in the aerospace industry and worked as a research scientist applying machine learning solutions to cyber security problems.

Sara Walton - BSI Sustainability Sector Experts

Sara Walton is Sector Lead: Net Zero for BSI, the UK’s National Standards Body. Sara explores key challenges for sectors related to food, retail, and services, alongside practitioners and experts, to uncover real world solutions. She has over 10 years’ experience of standardization development and related solutions. Sara has led UK committees working in, amongst other subjects, governance, public sector procurement, quality management, occupational health and safety and conformity assessment. Prior to working for BSI, Sara worked in business-to-business information publishing, creating, and delivering knowledge solutions for organizations based on their legal and compliance needs.

Thomas Butler - Information & Cyber Security Professional

Thomas is an ex-Big Four information & cyber security professional with over 30 years of experience providing strategic, organizational, technology and risk-based pragmatic solutions across multiple geographies and industries from detailed engineering to board-level engagement. Working from a strong consultancy background Thomas demonstrates expertise in board level communications, executive security management, compliance, strategy, technology transformation, third party assurance, data protection, cloud security and complex security solution design that balances business risk with value centric results.
