South West Wales Regional Learning and Skills Partnership 'Employment & Skills Plan 2022'

Local News 2 Dec 2022

The Regional Learning and Skills Partnership (RLSP) for South West Wales is one of three regional partnerships in Wales, working to drive investment in skills by developing responses based upon local and regional need.

On Wednesday 30 November, the RLSP for South West Wales launched their Employment & Skills Plan for 2022.

It brings together industry partners from all sectors along with training/education providers to develop a strategic partnership to enhance and promote skills and training in the region, specifically to meet the demand of employers both now and in the future.

The three year Employment and Skills Plan has been developed in conjunction with employers, training providers and school leaders to inform Welsh Government on the future skills needs of the region, with an aim to influence their planning and funding post sixteen education through full time courses and apprenticeships.

Rob Basini, FSB Development Manager for South & Mid Wales, a member of the RLSP board, attended the launch said “Ensuring businesses can access suitably skilled people has been a critical issue for many firms over the past few years across the whole of Wales, and continues to be a real challenge.

This plan will help influence and shape skills provision in South West Wales and will work towards helping small businesses in the area address ongoing barriers.”

Since the last Employment and Skills Plan in 2019 there have been major changes across the world, the post Covid landscape for skills has changed the way in which individuals now receive training with a clear shift in requirements around digital technology. Recruitment remains a major challenge for many sectors with many facing economic difficulty as jobs remain unfilled.

The plan, amongst other factors, will focus on all sectors to address the skill gaps by focusing on priority sectors and developing clear progression routes to allow the opportunity for employers to develop, retain, reskill and upskill their employees, encouraging learning for life.
