Former Chancellor of the Exchequer visits FSB

On Friday 7 October Kwasi Kwarteng MP and the then Chancellor of the Exchequer invited FSB Surrey Development Manager, Ray Abrahams to join a select group of business leaders including McDonalds, Pinewood Studios, Media Football, Sytner Motor Group, Dnata Global and Berkley Homes for an open discussion on growing the economy.

Joined by both the Leader and Chief Executive of Spelthorne Borough Council the Chancellor was interested in how these large corporations can support and help local SMEs to grow the economy. The recent mini budget was the topic of conversation, but the skills agenda took pride of place as an issue of concern.

The recent mini budget was the topic of conversation, but the skills agenda took pride of place as an issue of concern.

Surprisingly, the now defunct kickstart scheme received a resounding vote of confidence and lobbying for it’s return. The Chancellor confirmed that business rate reform was still on the table as well as raising the VAT threshold to simplify the process for small businesses. Announcements may be made in the budget statement.
