FSB: Local businesses must win fair share of climate change contracts

Scottish Budget 2020-21

The Scottish Government's budget for 2020 to 2021 is set to win support from a majority of MSPs in the Scottish Parliament later today.

Andrew McRae, the Federation of Small Businesses’ (FSB) Scotland policy chair, said: “Under trying circumstances, the Finance Secretary is to be congratulated for finding sufficient parliamentary support for the Scottish Government’s spending plans. Vital measures – such as ongoing rates help for smaller businesses – have been secured.”

The Scottish Government has outlined a range of new actions to reduce Scotland’s carbon emissions, including a £1.8billion capital investment programme and changes to the country’s public transport system.

Andrew McRae said: “Independent businesses must be at the heart of action to decarbonise Scotland’s economy. That’s why small operators must win their fair share of these new public works. Similarly, while it is difficult to object to moves to provide free bus travel for younger people, our wider public transport network must also be geared to support local economies and the working age population.”
