Gloucestershire businessman marks a half century of loyal FSB membership

2024 is a very big year for Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) as we celebrate our 50th anniversary - and for at least one Gloucestershire member it also marks his 50th year as a member.

FSB started in 1974 with the aim of speaking up for the small business community and now, 50 years later - with a string of major policy successes which have helped millions of businesses under our belt - we are Britain’s biggest and most successful business representation group.

We will be celebrating our half century in various ways – not least by hosting our industry-leading small business awards final next month at Blackpool's Winter Gardens for the first time – and we know it would not have been possible without the loyalty of so many of our amazing members.

At our recent FSB South West Bootcamp in Devon we caught up with one of them - Gloucestershire member Derek Thomas from WH Thomas & Son of Wotton-Under-Edge - who went to one of the very first FSB get-togethers in Bristol in 1974 and joined on the spot. 50 years later he still a member. We asked him why he did so at our Bootcamp - and the video here says it all.

We are very proud of Derek and all those others who helped create this organisation. And we look forward to serving all of you for many years to come.
