Employment figures point to the beginning of an economic recovery, but recruitment crisis must be tackled

Commenting on Wales’ employment figures, Ben Francis, FSB Wales Policy Chair, said:

“Today’s announcement on employment figures for Wales is very heartening and points to the fact that the economic recovery – whilst in its infancy – is beginning to take off in Wales.

“This data also shows that small firms need to recruit and retain staff in order to build their own economic recovery – which means that it is vital that businesses are able to access the people that they need to rebuild. There are clearly issues being experienced by businesses in some sectors and this is something that Welsh Government must urgently seek to understand, and ensure that they provide support to firms to find the staff that they need.

“Furthermore, this points to the need to help Welsh firms plan to potentially reframe their businesses in a post-Covid economy. We hope to see support from Welsh Government on this, which will help businesses ensure that they can work towards a stable and successful future for the business, the staff they employ and the communities that they support.”
