Dominic Raab MP, roundtable discussion with members

FSB Surrey received a call from the office of Dominic Raab MP, Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Chancellor and Justice Secretary requesting a roundtable discussion with members. Local member, Derek Williamson offered the conference room in his offices to host this very important meeting with 9 FSB members. Opening the discussion the Deputy Prime Minister said that Government priority is to halve inflation as well as focussing on investment in skills and apprenticeships. Energy prices also featured as a high priority but with increased supply prices should fall. Government trying to support SMEs by confirming no planned increase in corporation tax and announcing the business boost grant of £2000 available through Funding Circle. 

Once again R&D Tax credit cuts raised as an issue. Mr Raab listened intently and promised to raise with the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

On local issues members said they have not raised prices but so called ‘cheap labour’ is not cheap at all. Walton High Street needs a facelift to encourage footfall and we will meet with the local BID Manager for an onsite visit.Five local manufacturing businesses have recently closed down.

On a positive note house prices remain steady.

Extend the Oyster card zone.

Persuade the Mayor of London to postpone planned ULEZ charge.

Relax the current squeeze on landlords.

Dominic Raab invited that any further issues be sent direct to his team.

At this meeting local constituent and FSB member Julianne Ponan was congratulated on being awarded MBE.
