Sauchiehall Street update from the FSB in Scotland

The recent fires in the Sauchiehall Street area have had a significant impact on Glasgow businesses.

Dozens of businesses in the cordoned sections around Victoria’s and the Glasgow School of Art have been unable to have access to their premises, with many forced to close or relocate. Further, firms outside the cordon have faced difficulties due to a substantial fall in footfall.  Sauchiehall Street

FSB is doing everything we can to support members and other small businesses in the area:

  • FSB successfully made the case for an emergency rates relief scheme for affected businesses.
  • FSB is raising the concerns of local businesses at the Sauchiehall Street task force and taking part in the independent traders’ public meetings
  • FSB has been visiting members and businesses in the vicinity to offer support and advice on legal and insurance matters

After raising concerns about local business cashflow, we were extremely pleased when Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government announced a new £5 million fund for local firms - which will provide up to £20k support for each business

If you’re a business in the neighbourhood, you can read the latest update from Glasgow City Council here and get in touch with their business support team on businesssupport@glasgow.gov.uk or 0141 287 0416. Alternatively, you can get in touch with me at Hisashi.kuboyama@fsb.org.uk
