The Issue

Since the outcome of the referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union (EU), FSB has undertaken a comprehensive research programme to analyse the potential opportunities and risks of Brexit. Our research has been based directly on what the small business community and our members have told us is important to them. We have found this out through a series of surveys, focus groups and interviews.

Action FSB have taken

  • We commissioned a comprehensive research programme to analyse the potential opportunities and risks of the UK leaving the EU. The four part Brexit research series focuses on overseas trade, access to labour and skills, EU funding and the future of regulation.
  • Engaged with key stakeholders in Government including the Prime Minister to ensure the voice of small businesses is heard each step of the way
  • Part of the Business Advisory group that meets regularly with the Chancellor, Secretary of State for Department of Exiting the EU and the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and the Industrial Strategy
  • Undertaken surveys on customs arrangements and on planning for a ‘no deal’ (with no transition period scenario)

Our Goal

It’s now our role to ensure our members get the best deal out of Brexit, one that does not inhibit growth but fosters it. The aim of our research is to inform the Brexit negotiations to ensure the best possible outcome for small businesses.
