FSB members and award winners make up a quarter of this year’s brilliant Small Biz 100

A quarter of the brilliant small businesses on this year’s Small Biz 100 list are members of Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) or winners of FSB Celebrating Small Business awards.

A total of 25, ranging from a gin distillery and an ice cream seller, to a dog hydrotherapy centre and creator of bilingual children’s books, have been selected for the Small Business Saturday-run initiative.

Each of the 100 businesses will be promoted on social media during the 100 day run up to this year’s Small Business Saturday on 7 December.

FSB is a key supporter of the Small Business Saturday campaign, which celebrates small business success and encourages consumers to shop local.

Mike Cherry, FSB National Chairman, said: “This year’s list shows the incredible diversity of what small firms bring to the UK economy, from classic retailers, innovative entrepreneurs and those providing vital services.

“With 5.6 million small firms and self-employed in the UK, Small Business Saturday is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate all that they bring to their communities across the UK.

“Congratulations once again to all the small businesses chosen for this year’s Small Biz 100, particularly our members who are included.”

Michelle Ovens, Director of Small Business Saturday, said: “We’re really excited once again to be featuring so many brilliant small businesses in this year’s Small Biz 100. It’s great to see so many FSB members and award winners in the list, and we look forward to celebrating their success in the coming months.”

Last year an estimated £812 million was spent with small businesses across the UK during last year’s Small Business Saturday, an increase of eight percent on the previous year.

On Twitter both #SmallBizSatUK and #SmallBusinessSaturday trended UK-wide throughout the day.

Politicians including the Prime Minister, the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Mayor of London all publicly supported the campaign.
