It’s not too late to prevent further backlog in MOT System

Following the announcement today by the Driver Vehicle Agency (DVA) that they would be increasing capacity of MOT testing centres in the coming weeks to address the current backlogs, FSB NI Development Manager, Mairaid McMahon, said:

“We welcome the announcement of 9,000 extra appointments on Sundays and public holidays in August, and 1,000 additional appointments per day from September onwards, as steps in the right direction to tackling the significant backlog in the MOT system at present. What remains a real concern, however, is the potential for all of this to be undermined by the planned industrial action tomorrow. If NIPSA’s suggestion that MOT inspectors will participate in the action comes to fruition, there is a real risk that this situation will deteriorate quickly.

“It is not too late for all parties in this dispute to commit to resolving the underlying issues to ensure that small business owners across Northern Ireland, who rely on their vehicles, are able to continue to trade and provide vital services for their customers. We urge management and staff in DVA to do whatever they can today to prevent further impact on the local economy.”
