Tell us about your business
I was made redundant from my job with a large financial services company during the property downturn after the credit crunch in 2010. Although this was unsettling at the time, it was actually the best thing that could have happened to me career-wise, as it gave me the push I needed to set up my own business: Phil Anderson Financial Services Ltd. Since then I’ve never looked back!
Since then there’s been lots of hard work, learning from my mistakes and surrounding myself with a great team. In the early days it would have been very easy to give up, but I am very goal focussed and determined to succeed. One of the best decisions that I made was hiring a business coach. It gave me someone to plan with and someone to hold me accountable. I had to transform from a financial adviser into a business owner and my coach helped massively with this.
What's the best thing about working for yourself?
I love looking after my team. I understand that if I look after my staff they will then in turn look after our clients.
What piece of advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business?
Go for it and get a good mentor or business coach.
Have you used any of your FSB benefits/How has your membership helped you?
I have attended online networking which I really enjoyed. It is great being able to connect with people during these different times.
