Following the publication of the UK Internal Market Bill, FSB NI Policy Chair, Tina McKenzie has called for pragmatism and cool heads as we move closer towards the end of the transition period.
Commenting, Tina McKenzie said:
“The publication of this Bill and the commentary around it has caused quite a stir, however, it is important that we continue to concentrate on the matter at hand.
“With only 16 weeks until the transition period ends and the new trading arrangements come into force, we need to focus on arriving at an agreed and sensible implementation of the Northern Ireland Protocol which delivers for businesses and consumers on both sides of the Irish Sea.
“While there are some challenging issues regarding the implementation of the Protocol, a ‘zero tariff, zero quota’ free trade agreement between the UK and the EU would alleviate many of the difficulties.
“That is the prize on which we must continue to focus; something which is ultimately in the mutual interest of all parties to the negotiation.”
