Support schemes must deliver as First Minister shuts shops

FSB Scotland reacts to announcement all non-food shops are to close

The First Minister has called on all non-food shops and hairdressers to close to help slow the rate of coronavirus transmission.

Colin Borland, director of devolved nations for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) said: “Every responsible independent business owner will heed this recommendation from the FM. The health of the nation depends on everyone playing their part, including those that run their own enterprise.

“This move - and the plea to shut cafes, pubs and restaurants on Friday - underlines the need to get all of the Scottish Government and UK Government business support schemes up and running. We can’t see solid businesses that are so important to the fabric of our local places forced under due to circumstances way beyond their control.”
