Commenting on the launch of the Scottish Labour Party manifesto, Federation of Small Businesses’ (FSB) Scotland Policy Chair, Andrew McRae, said:
“It’s good to see Labour’s clear manifesto commitment to deliver its small business plan in Government, and that it recognises the crucial importance of Scotland’s small firms and the self-employed.
“The pledge to stamp out late payments to small businesses for work already carried out will be a boost for cashflow. We need large corporates to better report on their payment practices, exposing late payers.
“Similarly welcome are the pledges to give smaller firms a fairer crack of the whip when bidding for UK Government contracts and to guarantee small businesses access to banking services on their high street, including safely depositing cash.
“At the same time, while the election tax debate has focused largely on personal taxation, our research has found nine in 10 small business owners are concerned that business taxes could rise in the next parliament. So, we look forward to seeing the promised business taxation roadmap, along with reassurances on more detailed points around, say, the VAT threshold and employment taxes.”
