FSB’s online legal library for small businesses, FSB Legal Hub, has reached one million downloads. From customisable employment contracts for hiring a first employee, to late payment letters to get an invoice paid sooner, FSB Legal Hub has been a lifeline for thousands of small business owners and the self-employed, giving you more time to run your business.
In 2020 alone, 280,000 documents were downloaded as our legal team supported members through ever-changing COVID-19 regulations and restrictions, including risk assessments, furlough agreements and detailed coronavirus guidance. During that time, FSB Legal Hub’s 24/7 advice line gave peace of mind to 147,000 callers. Whether it was a quick question about which document their business needed or booking a call back for guidance on a complex issue, our legal team were on hand to support throughout.
What is FSB Legal Hub?
FSB Legal Hub is home to over 1,300 guides and downloadable, customisable documents. Since its launch in October 2017, FSB members have had templates, policies, letters and more at their fingertips across a range of topics, including cyber security, tax, and contracts. All the documents are written and regularly checked our team at Markel Law, so they’re always up to date. FSB Legal Hub also offers online health and safety training for you and your team. For businesses in Northern Ireland and Scotland following different laws, there’s a dedicated section with tailored documents.
If more support is required, you can easily instruct one of our experienced solicitors from Markel Law to act on your behalf through FSB Legal Hub, or over the phone, at a discounted rate. You’ll have certainty of costs with fixed-fee packages available on certain common legal matters.
In June 2020, a new FSB Debt Recovery service was launched on the hub, giving you access to tools, templates and guidance to tackle late payments. In the following 12 months, FSB helped 10,000 members get the money they were owed.
How has FSB Legal Hub supported members through changing legislation?
- 2018 saw the introduction of GDPR. Detailed data protection guidance and checklists were available to help businesses get ready and understand the impact of the new rules.
- During the run up to IR35 changes, expert advice about the legislation and how to prepare was only a click or phone call away.
- When the UK left the EU in 2020 and entered a transition period, FSB Legal Hub was on hand to guide members through changes to immigration rules and trading regulations.
- In July 2021, a “What’s new?” feature was released, making it even easier to discover the latest documents on the hub, as well as those that have been updated.
What do our members think?
For new businesses, FSB Legal Hub is a go-to for getting things right from day one. Briggy Owen joined FSB when she started her own business, Phoenix Rose PR & Communications, during the first national lockdown. “It was reassuring to know I could access up-to-date legal documents through my membership” says Briggy. “It would have costs me thousands to go through solicitors, so it’s great value for money to have all those documents available, as well as the assurance they were current and legally binding.”
Long-time FSB member Mak Singh is thankful to have FSB’s legal support by his side whilst running his business. “FSB has been a really valuable resource for legal advice,” says Mak, Managing Director of MSP Logistics Ltd. “I can access contracts and get help with my employees. I’m massively pleased to have FSB at my disposal”
