Small firms need Environment bill to deliver roadmap towards sustainable economy

Commenting on the launch of the Broadway Initiative – a group including the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) which has released recommendations on the Environment Bill – FSB’s National Chairman Mike Cherry said: “Across the UK, we are seeing many small firms doing their bit in meeting the challenges of creating a low carbon and sustainable economy.

“Other small businesses, however, want to play their part but need support and enough time to be able to make the changes needed to do so. These businesses need policy certainty so they can make the right investments at the right time. The simple truth is that the UK will not be able to meet its environmental and climate ambitions without the UK’s 5.6 million small businesses on board.

“The forthcoming Environment Bill must include a cross government strategy that sets out a clear and defined roadmap on how small businesses are going to be supported to transition to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable economy. Small firms come in all shapes and sizes – understanding these differences is paramount in developing this roadmap.”
