Small firms call for improved services, as rail fares rise

Responding to the inflation statistics, including confirmation of the Retail Prices Index figure that means rail fares will increase by 3.2% in January, Mike Cherry, Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) National Chairman, said:

“Like all commuters, those running small businesses, their customers and staff are hugely impacted by the chaos of delays, overcrowding and cancelled trains.

“As fares increase once again, those using train services will be looking to rail companies to show that the money raised from the price hikes is being used to improve their journeys.

“Well-maintained, reliable and integrated transport infrastructure is crucial to increase the productivity of small firms and the economy as a whole. Promised investment should help businesses and communities across the country, but it must be delivered without delay.”
