Small businesses welcome Wales Bill

Responding to the publication of the Wales Bill Federation of Small Businesses Welsh Policy Unit Chair Janet Jones said: "We are delighted that a target date has now been set for the full devolution of business rates to Wales.

"The documents released today suggest that from April 2015 revenues from business rates paid by small businesses in communities across Wales will flow directly to the Welsh Government. That could commence some three years earlier than revenues from the other taxes that are to be devolved as a result of the bill.

"With non-domestic rates set to become the Welsh Government''s first direct form of tax revenue, we would call on the First Minister and his Government to administer business rates in a way that shows that Welsh taxation is safe in their hands. With that in mind it is imperative that the Welsh Government reforms the current outdated and unfair regime in favour of one that better reflects the circumstances of the Welsh economy, and which enables small businesses in all parts of Wales to thrive and grow."
