FSB Wales Blog: Award-winning Face Factor is the future of beauty treatments in Wales

Ros Paul at Face FactorAfter selling her two pubs in 2005, Ros Paul felt that she was not ready to retire, but wanted a new direction for her career.

Having always been motivated to work for herself she was keen to continue in this vein and do something creative, be her own boss and learn a new skill.

This was what led Ros to retrain as a semi-permanent make-up artist, and begin working freelance from different salons across South Wales. She found the initial training intense, but consistently pushed herself to improve and seek out new challenges. Ros made the ambitious commitment to learn a new skill every year, and was consistently on the look-out for new development opportunities. After eventually feeling unhappy with the travelling involved in working in different salons ranging from Carmarthen to Newport every day, Ros decided it was time to open her own salon, and Face Factor was born.

From the beginning, the ethos behind the salon was for clients to feel relaxed as soon as they walked in, and to absorb a glamorous and professional setting. This has led to the creation of the high street business which is now based in Porthcawl and employing three members of staff.

Ros’ commitment to challenging herself and her team has seen them recognised as the number one aesthetics and semi-permanent make-up salon in South Wales after winning the award for “Best Semi Permanent Makeup Salon in Wales” at the Official Makeup Awards earlier this year. This celebrated their state-of-the-art equipment – they are the first salon in Wales to use the Lumenis M22 machine for skin treatments – and Ros’ team’s commitment to be constantly innovating and improving.

Ros believes that one of Face Factor’s key offers is that they offer high end treatment at a high street price from a team who are constantly pushing themselves to be better, as well as offering unique treatments ahead of other salons in Wales.

Ros has now found that the business has grown more and more popular since opening. She thrives on the flexibility of being her own boss and finds this incredibly motivating, and wants to see her business continue to grow and flourish, as well as being seen as one of the best salons in South Wales.
