An eclectic selection of Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) members make up one fifth of this year’s Small Biz 100 list, published by the independent Small Business Saturday campaign. The members on the list include a small firm creating wheelchairs for disabled pets, a company inspiring children with science and a hula hoop entrepreneur who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent. FSB is very proud of the enterprising businesses chosen to be involved in the initiative, which highlights the successes of the small business community. The businesses will be promoted via social media in the 100 days running up to Small Business Saturday, which this year will be held on 2 December. FSB National Chairman Mike Cherry, said: “Congratulations to all the small businesses included on this year’s Small Biz 100 list. We are especially proud to have so many of our members selected for the initiative, which does a fantastic job of highlighting the diverse range of businesses working hard across the UK. “Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity to celebrate the successes of the 5.5 million small firms and self-employed in the UK and show consumers why they should be supported all year round. “The campaign, now in its fifth year, has gone from strength to strength and once again we are encouraging everyone to get behind small firms in their communities to make the day bigger and better than ever.” Michelle Ovens, Director of Small Business Saturday campaign, added: “We were overwhelmed by nominations of companies to take part in this year’s Small Biz 100. "We’re delighted that so many FSB members are recognised in the list, and we look forward to celebrating their success.” FSB is a key supporter working with the campaign, which is celebrating its fifth year in 2017. A massive £717 million was spent with small businesses during last year’s event- a 15 per cent increase from 2015. Across the country, 81 per cent of local authorities took part in the independent grassroots campaign last December, with 39 Government ministers visiting a small business. The hashtag #SmallBusinessSatUK also trended globally for the first time and reached 140 million people.
