Regional News Update: Business advisors, support for manufacturers and HS2 procurement

We need more business advisors!

FSB are supporters of Young Enterprise that provides mentoring for local students in the region. This year we need more volunteers to provide an hour a week between the end of September and spring next year to go into schools and help teams of young people develop their business ideas. If you would be able to help the next generation of entrepreneurs contact Rosie Callaway on

Support for manufacturers:

The Manufacturing Growth Programme (MGP) provides free advice and support to manufacturing SMEs to help them:
• Identify opportunities and create plans for  growth and improvement
• Work with the best external experts to implement those plans
• cover 35% of the cost of implementing the plans through a growth/improvement grant (maximum of £3,500)
• Connect to wider support to maximise opportunities for growth
More information can be found here (MGP pdf) or contact Michelle Connor on 01664 501501

HS2 Procurement Opportunities

HS2 Supplier Guide and FAQs to find out what they buying, when they buying, how they are engaging with the supply chain and where you can access opportunities.  The Contract Opportunities Table is a key tool which enables suppliers whose works, goods and services they aren’t buying directly to identify their prospective clients.   Also register on CompeteFor, which acts as a brokerage service, matching buyers and potential suppliers.  Registration is free, quick and simple and once published, your business profile will be used to match your business with contract opportunities that you can then apply for.  HS2 require their Tier 1 contractors to advertise all appropriate HS2 subcontract opportunities on CompeteFor.  This requirement will then be cascaded to their subcontractors and every business working on HS2.
For details on what HS2 is buying directly, please visit The UK Government’s Contracts Finder
