They are a major economic and socio-economic driver - when small businesses succeed, so do local communities and economies. At the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), we see this every day in the work we do to support small businesses and the self-employed.
We have achieved a lot through our work with national government, but we also have continued success at being a powerful voice for our members across local and regional government too. From undertaking planning best practices to achieve bustling high streets and business districts, the reach and potential impact of local and regional government on small business issues is extensive.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we worked closer than ever with councils to deliver direct support to small businesses during an unprecedented and challenging time. We’re building on those deeper and wider relationships on key issues such as levelling up, skills gaps, net zero and the ever-changing post-COVID business landscape.
