After moving to the area, local businessman and FSB member Terry Botfield quickly found there was little on offer to let business owners and managers meet and network.
“I couldn’t find any forums or groups where I could meet other businesses and charities, and I wanted to give something back to the community I live in,” said Terry.
What followed was the creation of The Romney Marsh Networking Group and the arrangement of networking opportunities for like-minded business people.
The meetings are laid back affairs, with at least 25 organisations in regular attendance at the Marsh Networking Over Coffee. A voluntary £5 fee payable in cash on the door covers the cost of the venue, with a proportion of the fee going towards local charity CARM, who support adults over 50 living in isolation on Romney Marsh.
As well as the hugely popular Coffee meeting, there are now after-hours meetings and breakfast networking events (complete with cooked breakfast for a fee), to make sure there is something for everyone’s busy schedules.
“The meetings provide a platform for businesses and charities to meet each other. A number of people are now working together - running a business can be a lonely place - we are there to support and advise each other.”
“ A lot of planning and support from others was needed to make The Marsh Network a success, I would like to thank FSB for their help and ongoing support”
The networking meetings take place at the newly refurbished The Ship in Dymchurch or The Cinque Port Arms in New Romney.
