At the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership conference this month, a social media campaign for the A64 partnership was launched with a high profile lorry wrap showing the campaign hashtag #A64JustDualIt. We encourage members to give their feedback to the A64 Growth Partnership by joining in the conversation via social media with the hashtag.
The A64 Growth Partnership is a partnership of local businesses, Local Authorities, the Federation of Small Businesses and the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding LEP, working closely to secure the improvement of the A64 between York and the East Coast to address the recurrent issues of journey time unreliability and unlock transformational growth of the region which will contribute to the UK economy.
The partnership’s objective is to highlight the issues for businesses and local communities that are caused by the inadequate nature of the A64 east of York, where the trunk road is mostly single carriageway of variable standard. Their immediate priority is ensuring the allocated RIS funding of up to £250m is invested in the duelling of the A64 carriageway from Hopgrove to Malton.
There are significant opportunities for economic growth along the A64 which the duelling plan could help develop. These include:
• The York Potash development at Whitby
• The University Technical College in Scarborough
• Coventry University
• Housing growth in Scarborough and Malton
• The expansion of major employers such as McCain Foods and Severfield
• The Malton Food Enterprise Zone
The campaign has the support of local MP’s and business groups.
Don’t forget to join in the conversation online with the #A64JustDualIt hashtag and lend your voice to the discussion. Our Development Manager for North Yorkshire, Carolyn Frank, has #A64JustDualIt car stickers available if anyone travels the road a lot and would like one to spread the word about the campaign, please ask.
