A group of young mums from Cardiff came together last summer to learn basic construction skills and then put their new talents to good use by creating the Welsh capital’s first ever Pink Beach Club.
Using reclaimed materials in its construction, the Pink Beach Club opened to the public in Porth Teigr between 20-25 August. The pop-up club featured DJs, rappers, young performers, dancers and fitness workshops, alongside drinks being served to the public.
The Pink Beach Club project saw a team of volunteers working with training organisation Pinkspiration to help the regeneration of Cardiff.
Pinkspiration is a construction firm that provides skills to young and disadvantaged people. Since its launch, Pinkspiration has upskilled more than 7,500 young people and community members.
The Pink Beach Club project was funded by igloo Regeneration’s Porth Teigr Community Fund and Cardiff Harbour Authority, and was supported by the Cardiff Commitment initiative.
Cllr Huw Thomas, Cardiff Council Leader, says: “This project is a great example of how, by working with partners in the public, private and third sectors via the Cardiff Commitment, we can help connect young people in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Cardiff with the training and skills they need to achieve their full potential and contribute to the success of Cardiff’s economy.”
