So on the 31st December we finally leave the customs union, but are we prepared for it? Do we know what we need to be doing before we leave and what we will need to do when we do leave?. But the UK Transition is not just about Europe, international trade with the rest of the world will have a different complexity. Trade deals which have been in place for a number of years will need to be re-negotiated and put in place for the preferential treatment of duties and taxes. Traders used to the easy trade lane that was Europe, will need to get paperwork and processes in place in order to comply with “international” trading. Customs clearance processes will need to be put in place and the payment of duties and taxes, where applicable, will need to be made.
But it’s not all doom and gloom. Understanding the processes is being prepared. Knowing what documents and how to present the documents is a step forward and during this event we will hopefully explain the processes and the paperwork which will be needed to effect an efficient customs clearance. Understanding the complexities of HS codes to ensure you fully understand how you will be affected by duties and taxes will go a long way to prevent anxiety, along with the new use of INCO terms when purchasing and selling, means there is now an exciting world out there full of opportunity and a chance to grow your own business through international trade.
