A stroke can be life threatening and can leave people with physical impairments, paralysis, speech and swallowing deficit, problems with vision, fatigue and also memory, emotional and behavioural changes. While treatment and rehabilitation in the NHS is excellent, the nature of stroke is that it can be an extremely long process with several different medical services required.
Suffering a stroke can have a life-changing effect on people and their families, with often massive changes to daily living and care needs. Many family members find themselves taking on caring responsibilities.
In addition to the long-term support of their personal nurse, they may identify that their patient would benefit from a course of face-to-face therapy or counselling.
Our nurses use their expertise to assess which would be the most appropriate therapy for each patient, and arrange it very quickly, often avoiding a long wait on the NHS and getting people on the road to recovery much sooner.
