Equality Act 2010 - Does It Affect Your Business?
The short answer is, yes ... big time! The Equality Act 2010 brings together previous legislation under one umbrella to ensure that everyone is treated fairly. The Act is wide ranging and with a recent award in excess of £4 million being made for sexual harassment, and the average award being £8,000, you need to be aware of your responsibilities under this Act.
Anyone tendering for local authority business, or business within the public sector, is required to have a Equality and Diversity Policy, but what does this mean in real terms? What should your policy contain?
Emma Judge, the Equality and Diversity Officer for Wakefield Council will be giving a presentation to outline the implications of the Act. Emma will also give useful tips on what you should have in a Equality and Diversity Policy for your business, especially if you are planning to tender for business within the public sector.
