The West of Scotland Region was originally formed under the banner of Strathclyde Region and came into being at a meeting in the Stakis Hotel, Glasgow in 1974.

The first chairman elected at a the first formal meeting in 1975 was Mrs Susan Bell. The first task of the region was to try and form branches and meeting were held throughout the area.
