Software Developer
Location - North West
Salary up to £40,000.00 per annum
We are seeking to recruit a Software Developer into an exciting new role to develop business solutions and contribute to the continual improvement of IT systems and processes within the FSB.
The Software Developer's key areas of accountability include:
• Software development and testing, including production of detailed specifications and writing programme code
• Provide a technical lead, both internally and externally, and manage other software development staff
• Maintain a knowledge of industry trends in the development of software standards and best practice
• Provision of IT systems support as required
• To undertake other duties relevant to the Department's activities commensurate with the level of the post and as directed by the Head of Systems and Data
The ideal candidate will:
• Be educated to degree level with substantial involvement in project life cycle development and exposure to PRINCE2 desirable
• Have a good general understanding of software languages and development methods in addition to knowledge of Object Oriented design
• Be skilled in .NET development, databases and web services with exposure to RAD techniques desirable
• Be flexible as travel to functions and events across the UK will be required in addition to occasional evening and weekend work

Policy Adviser (Trade & Industry, Pensions and Employment Law)
London Office, Westminster
Salary up to £35,523.00 per annum
The FSB is seeking to recruit a Policy Adviser to research, develop and communicate the policy work of the FSB in relation to trade and industry, pensions and employment law issues.
The Challenge:
- Act as the lead point of contact for policy work relating to small business issues in the department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and employment and pensions related policies in the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP)
- Identify the key policy issues potentially facing the FSB and undertake thorough research and analysis of the policy options relating to the specific brief
- Promote the FSB's policy position both to members and to external stakeholders through a variety of channels
- Provide support to the FSB's internal Policy Committee members and Chair and to the National Policy Chairman also liaising closely with colleagues in the policy team and Media and Public Affairs teams
The Candidate:
- Educated to degree level and with relevant experience, you will have substantial working knowledge of Westminster political processes and systems with experience of policy issues relating to BIS and DWP and political campaigning work desirable
- You will possess strong analytical, presentation and numerical skills along with sound writing skills to be able to prepare in house reports, briefings and publications
- You should have a proven ability to plan, prioritise and organise work and resources to ensure deadlines are met
- A flexible approach is essential due to the role requiring travel across the UK and the ability to work irregular hours when required

Deputy Head of Member Services (Marketing)
Location – Head Office, Blackpool
Salary circa £40,000 plus benefits

We are currently seeking a deputy to the Head of Member Services to assist in ensuring our package remains the market leader and continues to offer members the best possible advantage. In this new role, based at our Head Office, you will recommend, develop and implement continuous improvements to the FSB member experience and you will provide line management to the member services team.
The main focus of the job is to:- Develop digital and print media to promote the benefits of membership of the FSB in addition to undertaking regular reviews of the national marketing and communications strategy.
- Advise on the promotion of member benefits in relation to FSB campaigns to increase membership, also liaising with the sales team around how best to attract new members.
- Identify opportunities to enhance the communication of FSB member benefits to existing members making recommendations to utilise to best affect both traditional and new media channels.
- Deputise, as required, for the Head of Member Services and provide appropriate support for the Member Services Chairman.
- Develop and maintain your position as the lead FSB contact for identified current service providers, ensuring the maximum revenue stream is attained for the FSB.
Educated to degree level and with a relevant business and/or marketing qualification, the ideal candidate will have gained substantial experience within a commercial environment and have used all elements of the marketing mix in increasing revenue, along with recently acquired knowledge of national and regional media. Reporting to the Head of Member Services and working closely with a range of service providers, first-rate management skills are necessary. With broad communications experience, proven line management experience of a customer service team would be beneficial. You should possess strong organisation, prioritisation and networking skills to perform successfully in this busy role. You should be willing to undertake regular travel as part of the role as evening and weekend work will be required.
