Welsh entrepreneurs urged to enter awards to boost business footprint

Wales’ small businesses owners and the self-employed are being encouraged to enter the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB’s) business awards before the deadline of 1st December. The awards will recognise SMEs for the vital role they play in our regional and national economies.

Wales already has a strong track record, with the 2017 FSB UK Family Business of the Year Award being won by North Wales business, Go Below Underground Adventures. FSB Wales Policy Chair Janet Jones is hoping that more businesses from Wales will walk away with awards in 2018.

Janet Jones, FSB Wales Policy Chair, said:

“I’m thrilled that FSB will be taking the opportunity to highlight the excellence and diversity that is found in our SME sector in Wales. The categories offer the opportunity for a whole host of talent to be celebrated at the awards ceremony in February.

“SMEs play a vital part in Welsh life – contributing so much to the economy and making our country a more exciting place in which to live, work, study and visit.”

The winners of the 12 award categories in Wales will be announced at the FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards held in Cardiff on 6 February. These will then go forward to the national UK final, where the FSB UK Small Business of the Year 2018 will be announced, in London in May 2018.

Entries are open to all small businesses, whether or not they are a member of FSB, and businesses can enter as many categories as they wish. The awards are free to enter. The 12 award categories are:

•        Business Exporter of the Year

•        Ethical – Green Business of the Year

•        Business and Product Innovation Award

•        Digital Business of the Year

•        Microbusiness of the Year

•        Start-up of the Year

•        Scale-up of the Year

•        Family Business of the Year

•        Young Entrepreneur of the Year

•        Employer of the Year

•        The Triumph Over Adversity Award

•        Welsh in Business Award

According to FSB, more businesses are recognising how entering reputable business awards can bring huge returns – from creating brand credibility to opportunities for news coverage.
