New faces on FSB’s Scottish policy unit

Four new members have joined FSB’s Scottish policy unit, bringing years of experience in everything from retail to transport and training to the table.

These new members join the four regional representatives and together they will direct and shape the organisation’s policy recommendations to Scottish Ministers, MSPs, agencies and others.

The fresh faces include Andy Aird, who runs a successful vehicle sourcing and funding consultancy, Concierge Vehicle Solutions in East Kilbride. Andy has 37 years of industry experience and has recently taken on an apprentice. He’s joined by Andrew McRae who has grown his business, Context Interiors, into a globe-spanning enterprise, with shops in both Edinburgh and Hong Kong. Janet

Also in retail is Pearl Hamilton, an FSB member for 21 years, who owns Pearl’s Pet Care in Moray - a domestic pet care shop that has been part of the community since 1982. Last, but by no means least, is Lorna Trainer, who runs a private training, consultancy, research and development company based in Glasgow.

The committee has re-elected Andy Willox as its convener. Andy’s family business, Aberdeen-based Goldstar Cleaning Services, employs 120 staff servicing property across the North East.

Andy said: “We’ve made some formidable appointments to our policy unit, and I’m absolutely sure they’ll strengthen our hand. As always, we need to draw from the experience of real business owners to make the best case.”

The unit also has a new vice-convenor, Janet Torley. Janet runs Fife-based Practical Marketing, providing advice to her small business clients. Lanarkshire-based accountant Tony Higgins and Newtonmore B&B owner Amanda Frazer complete the committee line-up.

Janet said: “The Scottish policy unit helps FSB develop strong arguments. I’d like to thank all the members that have helped with this work – including former committee representatives – as well as our excellent staff team.”
