FSB meets with NI Secretary of State to call for Rates Relief Extension

During a recent meeting with the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, James Brokenshire MP, FSB Northern Ireland highlighted the need to ensure rates bills would be issued, and crucially that the Small Business Rates Relief (SBRR) be extended.

Speaking about the issue, Roger Pollen, FSB Northern Ireland's Head of External Affairs said:  “We welcome the Secretary of State’s statement today in which he sets out his intention to legislate through Westminster next month if the Northern Ireland Executive has still not been re-established.

"However, FSB is calling on the Secretary of State to ensure that, as well as legislating to strike a rate and issue bills, he takes action to extend the Small Business Rates Relief scheme.”

Figures released recently by the Department of Finance show that failure to extend SBRR would see the bills of around 4,500 businesses doubled.
