FSB present evidence on non-domestic rating system to NI Assembly Finance Committee

FSB Northern Ireland attended the Northern Ireland Assembly's Finance Committee meeting this afternoon, to present evidence on the impact of the non-domestic rating system on local small businesses.

Head of External Affairs for Northern Ireland, Roger Pollen, Policy Manager, Carolyn Brown and Development Manager, Mairaid McMahon highlighted the beneficial impact of the current Small Business Rates Relief Scheme and how rates remain one of the top two obstacles to business growth.

As the only part of the UK without a 100% rates relief scheme available to small businesses, FSB stressed that research carried out by FSB colleagues in England revealed that an application based rates scheme would lead to further red tape for small businesses, and therefore should remain automatically applied.
