Around the Birmingham Branch Area
A significant percentage of branch members work in the professional and service sectors, reflecting the City's commercial and financial importance in the region. Birmingham, land-locked city of invention, gave the world steam engines, gas lighting, whistles, 4-wheeled petrol-driven motor cars, Hansom Cabs and Balti's. It is home to the ICC, Symphony Hall, the world's largest assay office (with one-third of all UK Jewellery produced in the city's Jewellery Quarter) and the UK's largest Sea Life Centre! Small businesses form a significant part of the city's economy, with large numbers of branch members working in industries connected to engineering, transport and jewellery manufacturing. Birmingham also saw the foundation of two major high street banks - Lloyds Bank (now Lloyds TSB) and Midland Bank (now HSBC).
The Birmingham Branch holds regular member's meetings with top class speakers on current topics of interest and importance to the business community, which are open to all members of the Birmingham Branch. In addition, it holds regular committee meetings where non-committee members are welcome to attend as observers. For details of forthcoming meetings please go to the meetings page for this region or contact the Development Manager for Staffordshire and the West Midlands, Karen Woolley, on 01332 517176 or email for further information.
