Welcome to the Every Crime, Every Time Campaign
Business crime is grossly under recorded – only 1 in 8 incidents are reported. Crimes against businesses make up at least 20% of all crimes recorded. Typical responses from small businesses include:
- ‘Reporting crime is too much hassle'
- 'Reporting crime is a waste of time'
- ‘No faith in the criminal justice system'
You can do something about it. Report it!
Crime will:
- affect your ability to meet customer deadlines
- waste management time in dealing with incidents
- lower staff moral
- impact upon profit margins
......and impact on YOUR business.
Businesses are reluctant to report incidents to the police because they feel it is 'too much hassle' or 'police response is too slow' or 'we have no confidence that offenders will be prosecuted if caught.'
It is a shocking truth that for every incident reported, another 8 go unreported. In the last year nearly 66% of businesses have been victims of crime. Many businesses are repeat victims. If we have the evidence to put to the police and the Home Office on how businesses are impacted by crime. We can help to change this and better protect your business by reporting Every Crime, Every Time.
Unless ALL incidents of crime and anti social behaviour are reported the appropriate authorities will firstly not be aware that there is a problem and secondly not be convinced that it is worth allocating scarce resources to tackling the problems individual businesses and their staff face.
We, our partners and indeed the police and local authorities encourage each and every business to Report Every Crime, Every Time as well as reporting all incidents of anti social behaviour. In this way the authorities will be much better able to have all the information necessary to improve the way they deal with crime issues both from tackling crime at local level and establishing appropriate policy at local, regional and national level.
We include a poster for members to display in their premises.
You can do something about it - Report it!
The FSB has prepared materials and resources to support members in this initiative, including reporting sheets and incident logs.
