Behind the scenes look at our member testimonial filming

Written by Lily Tyson, Marketing Assistant at FSB

Earlier this week I was lucky enough to spend the day meeting some of our valued members, alongside our Head of Marketing, Fiona Smith.

I’ve been working for FSB for just over nine months, I’ve picked up an awful lot of information about small businesses from my colleagues and the research I have to do in order to write our ‘Helpful Guides’ and blogs for our new website (take a look at our resources section if you haven’t already, it’s fantastic and full of useful information).

I was given the chance to shadow Fiona and the team that joined us: the wonderful Susanna Boccaccio of Brilliant Trees Ltd and two lovely cameramen, Sam and John. We travelled to Clitheroe, East Lancs, where we would be filming member testimonials that you’ll be able to watch soon, but in the meantime, I thought I’d share some of the amazing feedback we received.

Take a look at the images below, you will also see Julie Watson of Automotion in Clitheroe. What a delight she is, so positive and friendly! Julie has been a member of FSB for just over fourteen years and we’re now heading towards the ten year anniversary of her involvement with the local FSB Branch Committee as Branch Secretary, which she finds ‘rewarding and interesting’. Congratulations Julie!

We also met Mark Woodward of the Printed Cup Company. Well, what a marvellous individual Mark is! The company does exactly what it says on the tin (or cup), they design and manufacture printed cups for clients across the UK and beyond. 22 per cent of their export is abroad, and they appear to be moving from strength to strength.

It’s clear to see why, yesterday Mark was a beacon of positive energy and enthusiasm, and I feel quite lucky to have met him. His story will ring true amongst a few of our members, he found himself out of work whilst in his late forties and after struggling to find another job and support his family, he decided to take matters into his own hands and set up his own company.

Today he has over 40 staff, profits are rising and his clients return again and again. It’s quite remarkable.

I’m telling you all this because Mark expressed to us that he wanted to pay back a debt to FSB. Sometimes, when you sit in the office, you don’t realise that you’re part of a bigger movement, a community, something that thousands of business people rely upon from day to day.

We were able to do so much for Mark, and in his own words: ‘FSB offers that support structure that small businesses need. It makes you feel like you’re part of something big, even if you’re still small.’

Today I’m proud to be a part of FSB.
