WORKPLACE PARKING LEVY FOR NOTTINGHAM

Nottingham City Council has got the go ahead from the Secretary of State for a Workplace Parking Levy in Nottingham to help pay for their contribution towards the second tram lines.  It will apply to businesses with over 10 employee parking spaces.

The council proposes a levy of £250 in 2011 , rising to £350 in 2014.

The FSB made representations to the public examination October 2007 and has campaigned against the WPL since.  It will not directly affect many FSB members but could have a knock-on effect through the supply chain and may persuade some companies to leave or not locate in the City, with potentially disatrous consequences for the local economy.

We are keeping a close watch on this to make sure that the City Council does not change the terms of the WPL before or after it is implememted.

If you have any views on how it may affect your business, or the City in general please e mail the Regional Chairman, Paul Maloney.

Nottingham Station

Support Plans for a major Hub Interchange for the city

The City Council and other partners are campaigning for funds for major changes at Nottingham Station, on a par with those at St Pancras.

John Watson, Chair of The Hub Project Board says:

"We have a vision, that a modernised railway station will be at the centre of Nottingham's regeneration – that it will fundamentally transform the southern side of the city and create a vibrant new down town area with high quality shops and offices."

The Hub proposals combine the old and the new to create a fully integrated transport interchange. The Edwardian buildings will be restored to their former glory and a stylish southern concourse will connect the trams and the trains in an accessible and attractive site. There will also be better provisions for cyclists, walkers and bus users, creating a real alternative to car travel for journeys in, around and from Nottingham.

The FSB fully supports the ideas, which, if can be funded, will make an enormous difference to this important Gateway to Nottingham.  For more information about The Hub or to register your support please click here to visit the website.
