Trading Standards and Trusted Trader Schemes

Trading Standards services in the region are working to combat rogue traders by providing good trader schemes to give official approval to those traders who are doing a good job:

Notts and Nottingham - Buy With Confidence scheme.

Derbyshire:  The Trusted Trader scheme.

Both schemes give a stamp of approval to a wide range of traders, from plumbers and electricians to hairdressers and financial advisors, all of whom have been vetted by Trading Standards officers.

Details of approved traders are shown on the internet so that consumers can search for a suitable trader near to them. In Derbyshire this will be in a newly developed section on the Derbyshire County Council web site.

Companies on the approved trader schemes can use the "Trusted Trader" and "Buy With Confidence" logos on letterheads, publicity, premises and vehicles and will be able to tell their customers that they are approved by Trading Standards.

To register with Nottinghamshire "Buy With Confidence" scheme go to www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk or phone Nottinghamshire Trading Standards on 01623 452005.
To register with Derbyshire's Trusted Trader scheme contact Trading Standards on 01629 580000 ext 6106.

Advice from Derbyshire Trading Standards on Using Local Products

Trading Standards Officers in Derbyshire will be visiting butchers and restaurants this year to check whether descriptions such as ‘homemade', ‘local' or ‘Derbyshire' are being used correctly.  In a 2008 pilot project, 26% of descriptions checked were found to be incorrect.  Local is considered to be produced within a 30 mile radius or the same county.
