Paul Maloney was elected for the third year as Chairman for the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Region at the AGM held on 25th November 2009.
Paul founded Technology Management and Consultancy in 2005, after leaving full-time employment as an IT Manager for a multi-national group.
As a small business owner Paul looked for organisations that could support him with both advice and networking with customers and suppliers. He joined the FSB in July 2005 and became a Mansfield and Ashfield branch committee member in the November of that year, promptly followed by becoming a committee member of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regional Committee at the end of the year.
Paul's company provides Business Continuity and Information Security advice to businesses of all sizes across the UK and Paul regularly provides articles to magazines on these subjects. As both a Specialist of the Business Continuity Institute and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Paul is one of only a handful of people in the World accredited to this level.
Paul is a firm believer that if you know something is wrong you should help fix it and lobby at local and regional Government level. During his first year he has considerably raised the profile of the FSB in the local media and with local authorities and other public bodies in the region. The FSB is now represented on four Employment and Skills Boards and on an increasing number of Local Strategic Partnerships.
The publication ‘East Midlands Going for Growth' was written and published jointly between the three regions of the East Midlands and the Area Policy Unit was launched in June 2008 at a very successful event with public sector representatives and has been used as a effective lobbying tool since then. The new, closer relationship the region now has with local authorities as a result of that has meant that when asked to change their practices (for example to reduce invoice payment terms) many of them now react positively and quickly.
In 2009, working with the Regional Committee and other volunteers Paul continued to raise the profile of our region in the ranks of the FSB, to show what the small business owners of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire are capable of and to demonstrate how important they are for the local economy.
