MALTON SUPERMARKET DEVELOPMENTS

RYEDALE & EAST COAST BRANCH MEETING

At the Beansheaf Hotel, Malton Road, Pickering YO17 6UE

Tuesday 31st January 2012

7.00 for 7.30pm

Following the extensive press coverage of the proposed supermarket developments within Malton we are pleased to welcome Emma Brooksbank, co-author of the Malton and Norton Neighbourhood Plan, to our January meeting.

FSB are the largest business organisation in the UK with over 200,000 members nationally, approx 3000 in North Yorkshire with nearly 600 in the Ryedale and East Coast Branch (nearly 100 in Malton / Norton Towns alone). FSB has lobbied hard with our Keep Trade Local campaign; sustaining a high street and a community is not only about shopping locally from independent small shops. It is about ensuring that the high street and people who live in the community have a viable sustainable future. Parking, transport, procurement, the threats of supermarkets and out-of town developments -all these issues are best dealt with by local authorities, local community groups, local businesses and local people working together. This is your opportunity to hear where the proposals are, at what stage of development and how you can help.

RLE

Setting up and running a business can be a daunting prospect, and it is a lot of hard work. But it is also one of the most rewarding things that you can do and can be one of the most positive changes someone can make for themselves and the community they live in.

In a society dominated by celebrity culture, celebrity entrepreneurs have emerged as inspirational figures. But we at the FSB believe that anyone who has a good idea and takes a risk to put it into practice and grow a business is an entrepreneur. The vast majority will never be celebrities, but they still enrich the lives of themselves and those around them.

These are the people that we champion – the Real Life Entrepreneurs.

conference

Our Region has been chosen to host conference in 2012.

Scarborough has everything a perfect holiday should have..... two beautiful bays with golden sand, award winning gardens, world class attractions such as the Sea Life Centre and the Stephen Joseph Theatre, a vibrant nightlife, holiday shows and entertainment, major shopping retailers, culture, heritage, history and some fantastic accommodation for you to stay in.

We are proud of our heritage and there is lots to see and do in your quest to find out more about Yorkshire's Coastline.

Fancy a day out watching a re-enacted battle at Scarborough Castle or Whitby Abbey? Perhaps you prefer wandering through a museum and learning about Captain Cook at the Memorial Museum in Whitby or Neolithic man at The Rotunda in Scarborough, or find out about Filey's local history at the Museum on Queen Street.

All our towns have a strong fishing heritage and you can wander down to the harbour and seafront and still watch the fishing boats landing their catch.

Once evening falls, a visit to one of our local theatres or concert halls is a must. You can see a play, musical, summer show or a concert.

Recently opened is Scarborough's Open Air Theatre which seats 6,000 people and has already attracted some top artists to perform there.

As well as seeing famous names, the area has a wealth of local talent who provide a variety of holiday entertainment.

And there is much more to the Scarborough area and we'll be telling you more as we continue our build-up to our FSB National Conference 2012. To book please visit the Conference Pages
