Following the announcement by the Department for Communities and Local Government that Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are set for a new mayor, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) looks forward to working with the mayoral candidates to boost the activity of smaller businesses in Cambridge. The region is set to have a great say over how their area is run, as a result of the devolution deal announced by Communities Secretary of State, Sajid Javid. This includes more powers and funding for economic growth. Job creation, skills, housing and transport are all key areas for the region’s economic prosperity. FSB have worked hard to ensure that making Cambridgeshire and Peterborough a driver of growth in the East and the UK is a priority for the region and they have produced a manifesto which outlines the issues for small businesses in the region to help make this happen. Alan Todd, chairman of the Greater Cambridge branch of FSB said: “This deal presents huge opportunities and FSB looks forward to working with the mayor to make progress on lowering the costs of doing business in the whole region”.
