London Policy Unit Delighted at Announcement on Business Rate Supplement for Crossrail

We are delighted at the decision by the Mayor to raise the threshold for paying the Supplementary Business Rate for Crossrail to those businesses with a rateable value above £55,000, thereby ensuring up to 4,000 small businesses are now exempted from paying it.

"The level  of business rates is a major issue for small businesses in London and it is good that the Mayor has taken the opportunity to reduce the number of smaller businesses who are eligible to pay it. The FSB and others had urged the Mayor only to raise as much money as he needed from the business community to fund its share of Crossrail. We are pleased that he has listened to us," said the Sue Terpilowski, Chair of the London Policy Unit

London Policy Unit Response to the Mayor's Strategies

In October 2009, the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, published three draft strategies for Consultation.  These were, the Mayor's Transport Strategy; The Economic Development Strategy; and the London Plan.  Follow the links for our responses.

The Credit Crunch / the Recession / the Economic Downturn...

Whatever you call it, the economic situation has been damaging to London's small business sector.

The FSB is working both in London and nationally to minimise the impact on the self-employed and small businesses. We are working to see action to help and support small businesses - giving them the best possible chance of benefitting from the economic upturn now that we have technically come out of recession.
